The Finger Lakes Triathlon is just weeks away, scheduled for September 10th, 2017. This annual fundraiser for hemophilia attracts thousands of runners and spectators to the shores of beautiful Canandaigua Lake every year!
Every September, more than 1,200 athletes from across the region come to the welcoming shores of Canandaigua Lake to compete in the Finger Lakes Triathlon. Over 2,000 eager fans and supporters are also on hand, ready to cheer the athletes over that final finish line. The Finger Lakes Triathlon has been a tradition in the area since 2002 and remains one of the largest held in Upstate New York.
There’s even a Kid’s Triathlon, scheduled for Saturday, September 9th. The Finger Lakes Kids’ Triathlon is designed for 6 to 15 year-olds. Kids 10 and under get to “compete” in an un-timed “fun” event. For children 11 years of age and older, the race is timed – and lots of fun.
Best of all, the Finger Lakes Triathlon is one of the few triathlons in the country that is 100% for charity.
In fact, the Finger Lakes Triathlon is the biggest annual fundraiser for the Mary M. Gooley Hemophilia Center. Every year the center runs the “Train For Treatment” program that enables athletes to raise money for the Center as they train for the triathlon. The Finger Lakes Triathlon was chosen for this honor not only because it is so well attended but because it promotes physical fitness – an important part of fighting hemophilia. All of the money raised during the triathlon goes directly to the Mary M. Gooley Hemophilia Center.
The Finger Lakes Triathlon race course has both Olympic and Sprint distance courses so that athletes of all abilities can take part. On Race Day, the athletes are released in waves so as to keep course congestion to a minimum.
