The holiday season is almost upon us and with it the 2017 Granger Homestead Festival of Trees! Come see a wonderland of unique and expressive holiday trees, wreaths, and other decorations. November 10th through December 3rd, 2017 in Canadaigua, NY.
The annual Granger Homestead Festival of Trees, now celebrating its 23rd year, has become a much-loved Finger Lakes tradition. Christmas trees, wreaths, and other seasonal decorations will fill the first floor of the historic mansion. Each item has been created for the show by an organization, artist, or individual and visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorites.
Even our Canandaigua B&B, Sutherland House, is getting into the act with a tree!
Best of all, most of the items have been donated to the Granger Homestead’s annual silent auction. Don’t just vote for your favorites, bid, too and maybe you’ll be able to take it home once the show closes!
The Festival of Trees began in 1994 as a way to celebrate the season and as a fundraiser for the Homestead’s operations and educational programs.
Gideon Granger had the Granger Homestead built for his family in 1816. Gideon Granger (1767 – 1822) was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives and Postmaster General for both President Jefferson and President Madison. In fact, Granger still holds the record for the longest serving Postmaster General in the history of our nation: 1801 to 1814, 13 years.
This historic property stayed in the family for four generations before becoming a historic house museum in 1946. The Homestead includes the mansion, a Carriage Museum, and an 1822 Law Office. The Carriage Museum alone holds a remarkable collection of over 100 horse-drawn carriages and farm implements. The Granger Homestead and Carriage Museum are open from May through October.
Festival of Trees kicks off each year with the annual Canandaigua Christkindl Market. The Christkindl Market is a juried, holiday craft show held on the Granger Homestead lawn and featuring over 150 regional artisans. The event includes food vendors, wine, beer, live entertainment, and more.
Come see the all the wonderful creations November 10th through December 3rd, 2017 in Canadaigua, NY.
