Granger Homestead and Carriage MuseumStep back in time with a visit to Canandaigua’s Granger Homestead and Carriage Museum! This 1816 Federal-style home museum features over 100 horse-drawn vehicles and offers both house and carriage tours. The 19th century Law Office is also the location of a number of events throughout the year.

The Granger Homestead and Carriage Museum is an 1816 Federal-style mansion located in Canandaigua, NY. The historic home and grounds were home to Gideon Granger, Postmaster General of the United States under Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. In fact, he also holds the record for his 13 years as Postmaster General. Granger (1767 – 1822) was also a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives.

One of the great things about the Finger Lakes region is that we often have snow even when it’s not in the forecast. That’s because we get lake-effect snow. Lake-effect snow is snow caused by cold winds sweeping across Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. The combination of normal winter storms and lake-effect snow typically ensures our area a long and robust ski season.

Consequently, the Finger Lakes region is a winter sports enthusiast’s dream with an excellent selection of both cross-country and downhill ski areas. Snowboarding, snow shoeing, skating, sledding, and more are also right at your fingertips.

You may already know Bristol Mountain as the Finger Lakes region’s premier ski resort. People come from all over during ski season to enjoy the park’s 35 slopes and trails. The views of the summit are just as breathtaking – not to mention twice as beautiful – during leaf-peeping season?

Truth be told, Bristol Mountain never sleeps and offers a variety of things to do all year long. For those who love fall foliage, however, now may be the best time to visit!

Craft beer popularity has grown by leaps and bounds in the US during the last 20 years or so. In a market once dominated by similar tasting, big brand beers, freshness, innovation, and regional flavor have made a resounding comeback.

The Finger Lakes are not immune to this trend. As I said above, there are now more than 75 craft breweries in the Finger Lakes – and there may be even more by the time I am done writing this post! Tasting rooms and brew pubs are all over the Finger Lakes, making tourings and tastings easy to come by. So easy, in fact, that numerous Finger Lakes beer trails have been created around them.
